Hello! Welcome to my wasp page :D Click the images to open different sections about these little guys :D:D (Less of a lie there is now information and a functioning click system but it is still formatted terribly and not fully written yet)
Did you know that wasps have five eyes? The two big ones are compound eyes, but they have three smaller ones as well, called ocelli. They are more primative, just a triangle of dots on the forehead, more formally known as the vertex.
Wasps go through four forms in their lifecycle, the egg, larva, pupa and adult form. They undergo complete metaphorphasis. Did you know that only the larvae are carnivorous? It is they whom eats the prey that the adult worker wasps have captured for them, or who parasitise on other animals. The adult wasps rarely eat, and when they do, it is sugary substances like nectar. Wasps are pollinators! This high sugar diet is why they go for your sugary drink, but if you see one cut a chunk out of some meat you have, she's taking it back to her little sisters :D
A wonder if you knew a wasp could look like the photo you clicked to get this? This a ruby tailed wasp, a kleptoparasite who often lays her eggs in the nests of other solitary wasps or bees.
